Who are you?
My name is Vadim Daniel, and I’m a professional photographer. I was always interested in photography, but the idea of taking photos professionally came to me only after my own wedding. While reviewing my wedding photos, I thought to myself, I can do a much better job.
I opened my first studio in Israel in 2005. Since then, my professional work includes fashion, wedding, and journalistic photography.
My photographs have appeared in local and international publications. My images can be found in fashion magazines and leading model agencies’ websites. I invite you to browse through my online portfolio.
How many languages do you speak?
My mother tongue is Russian. I also speak English, Hebrew, and some French.
How long have you been in Canada?
My wife and I moved to Canada in 2007. Four days after my arrival, I photographed my first Canadian wedding in North Hatley, near Montréal.
What are your main areas of expertise?
Currently, my primarily focus is on weddings, but I also accept assignments for commercial photography and portraiture, with which I have experience.
What is your style?
I prefer not to be tied down to any particular style. Every wedding or project calls for a fresh approach, as every couple has their own style. I do my best to familiarize myself with the bride and groom in advance, so that I can to capture as much detail as possible. I don’t wait for the perfect image, I try to create it along with the couple.
The wedding day is usually stressful and emotional, and some couples may find it difficult to stand in front of the camera. It is my goal to make them feel at ease so they enjoy the photo session and the wedding day.
What equipment do you use?
I shoot with the most advanced digital equipment. My personal choice is Canon. I always prefer natural lighting, but I use flash when it’s required. I always bring back-up equipment with me, for any eventuality.
Do you work alone?
Some projects I photograph by myself, and for others I hire a second professional photographer.
How much do you charge?
I believe in honesty and quality. You can find prices on my website. My clients always know what they are paying for. I have no hourly rate or time limits. I charge for a full wedding day. When my clients order a photo album they pay the price charged by the album manufacturer. I charge only for the album design, which I do myself.
Do you offer wedding albums?
I work with a well established company called “Graphistudio.” They offer a wide selection of sizes and covers. These are high quality albums, which are priced accordingly. I offer my services in selecting the photographs for the album, but the clients may make their own choices if they prefer. The album is ready in eight to10 weeks.
Do you have some advice for couples looking for their wedding photographers?
I would advise that you start looking for a photographer as early as possible, ideally about a year prior the wedding date. The wedding season in Canada is fairly short, due to the weather, so most weddings take place within a period of few months.
The couple needs to make sure that the photographer they like is available at their wedding day. During the meeting with the photographer, the couple should feel free to ask plenty of questions. It’s important to review the photo albums and to make sure that the photographer shows you a complete photo session, not only selected images. This way, the couple knows how their wedding will look from beginning to end.
It’s also important to ask who is shooting the wedding, the studio owner or an employee? Does the photographer commit to keeping a full set of backup equipment? Remember, if something goes wrong with the camera, there won’t be a second chance to take those pictures.
The couple should make a wedding plan. Discuss the schedule with the photographer, and ask him how much time he requires to complete the session. A well-planned and detailed schedule will help in getting better pictures.
Another important detail to ask is how many images the couple receives, as well as the file format and image resolution. Some photographers might provide their clients a disk with only low-resolution images, which don’t allow printing in sizes larger than 6″ x 4″.
I hope every couple succeeds in finding a photographer who will document the expression of their love with beautiful, unforgettable images that their family and friends will admire and treasure. Have a great wedding day!
